Why Greener Infrastructure?
In a densely populated region with enormous amount of infrastructure, alternatives needs to be undertaken to ensure ecological sustainability.
The Problem
The construction for stages 2 and 3 of the Westconnex project (M4-M5 motorway link) undertaken in the Inner West area of Sydney, is destroying local environments through the removal of trees, narrowing of paths and road widening (City of Sydney 2017).
This has resulted in the removal of 859 trees, specifically in the suburb of St Peters (300 trees) and also suburb of Alexandria (527 trees).
The Solution- Greener West
The Greener West proposes greener infrastructure to be implemented as done so by the City of Sydney council.
Based on the recent success of greener infrastructure in the City of Sydney, greener infrastructure would remove the problem of spacing as well as providing a suitable and sustainable that adapts to the ever growing infrastructure environment of the Inner West.
