Our Aim

Our aim in the Greener West Campaign is to pitch and lobby to the mid-to-high populated Inner West Council to provide green infrastructure to existing and new infrastructure.

Our aim is to also lobby to the City of Sydney Council to expand their current policy and plan on green infrastructure to include the Inner West region.

Why?

Although both state and local governments are developing guidelines and strategies to ensure that green cover is maintained through this land use change process (NSW Government, 2013), there is a need for reliable and constant understanding of how green cover is distributed in Sydney (Lin et al. 2015: 953).

The road minister announced that the removed trees would be replaced by 1600 new trees, however, construction is set to continue into the first quarter of 2020, so there is a need for green spaces in the interim. As the City of Sydney already has existing green roof and walls policy (although they could be expanded) similar policies should be implemented in the Inner West which is also affected by the Westconnex project. This would be a first step to creating sustainable green spaces in the Inner West/Sydney.

Green Star Buildings

Greener West will also aim to implement Green Star building ratings as a part of the greener infrastructure movement. Green Star rating is a Green Building Council of Australia voluntary initiative whereby buildings would be deemed Green Star certified. A promotional video of the rating system can be viewed below.

We are the new advocacy group that is made of a core team of personalities sharing values of eco-sustainability and eco-friendly environment and creating impact through communication.
